METRO RICHMOND EXPORTS INITIATIVE
2018 PITCH PANEL COMPETITION

APPLICATIONS DUE 01/05/2018 || COMPETITION 01/24/2018

Purpose:

Metro Richmond Exports Initiative (MREI), a partnership between Greater Richmond Partnership, Virginia’s Gateway Region, and Virginia Commonwealth University’s L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs Center for Urban & Regional Analysis (CURA @ VCU) with the support of J P Morgan Chase are proud to announce the opportunity for small and medium sized* local businesses to win one of five $5,000 grants for initiating or increasing their business to export.

In addition to providing grants, the objectives of the MREI 2018 Pitch Panel Competition include:

  • To formalize the networking potential for Richmond businesses to increase expo
  • To provide a structured opportunity for local businesses to showcase their exportable goods and service
  • To provide local businesses with new strategies for exporting those goods and services
  • To introduce local business leaders to a larger community to identify potential new relationships

Process:

1. Contest entrants must own or be employed by a small- or medium-sized business* headquartered within the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area** that seeks to initiate or increase the export of goods and services within the next 12 months.

2. Contestants must submit the application form online (using this link) by January 5th which must include:

a. A profile and history of your company
b. A brief description of the goods or services you wish to export
c. Why you believe your goods or services have potential for export
d. Your experience or knowledge of exporting abroad
e. Obstacles you currently face to initiating or expanding exports
f. A brief description of how the $5,000 grant would be used to increase exports

3. Contestants for the final stage will be selected based on merit from the application pool by the core partners of the Metro Richmond Exports Initiative. Those selected will be notified no later than January 10th.

4. Selected finalist will be invited to pitch their export strategy to our panel of judges on Wednesday January 24th prior to the MREI Annual Reception for a for a chance to win one of five $5,000 grants.

5. Pitches should include:

a. A profile and history of your company
b. A showcase/demonstration of the goods or services to be exported
c. An explanation of why your goods or services are suitable for export abroad
d. Your experience or knowledge of exporting abroad
e. Obstacles you currently face to initiating or expanding exports
f. A brief description of how the $5,000 grant would be used to increase exports

Presentations will be limited to five minutes per contestant.

Please Note: While the selection panel has read your application, the guest judges have not.
This will be the judges first introduction to what you do, so, make it count. Be creative, be informative, and showcase your business and your passion for it.
